Hurra, Hurra! Planmäßig am 3. Oktober soll die Wiedereröffnung der Staatsoper gefeiert werden. Allerdings stimmt das Jahr nicht ganz. Denn eigentlich sollte die erste  Spielzeit im restaurierten Haus 2013 beginnen. Da gab es aber nur das Richtfest. Aufführungen wird es in dem neuen Haus  auch noch nicht geben, denn es ist  nicht spielbereit. Frühestens im Dezember 2017 werden wieder Zuschauer in das Gebäude dürfen, wenn alles klappt.

Damals zum Richtfest sagte der Staatsminister für Kultur, dass eben ein Opernhaus ein hochkomplexes Gebilde sei, und für die Kunst sei auch eigentlich nichts zu teuer. Denn neben den Terminen waren auch mal wieder die Kosten völlig aus dem Ruder gelaufen. Das lag aber nicht an der Komplexität, sondern wie so oft in Berlin, an schlampiger Planung. Während der Bauarbeiten wollte man eine Lösung für bessere Akkustik im Zuschauersaal finden. Die bestand aus einer Vergrößerung des Raumes. Allerdings wäre dadurch  das Gebäude so schwer geworden, dass es unweigerlich im märkischen Sand versunken wäre, was man dann noch rechtzeitig bemerkte. Die Stützungsmaßnahmen verschlangen Unsummen und verzögerten die Bauarbeiten um vier Jahre. Am Ende wird sich wieder bewahrheiten, was für so viele Denkmäler in Berlin gilt: kostet mehr, wird später fertig, sieht anders aus.

Isn´t it great`! The Reopening of the State Opera House is absolutely in time. It is scheduled for October the third, as originally planned. Unfortunately the year is wrong. The ceremony should take place in 2013, four years before. At that time there was only the topping out ceremony. The Minister of Culture excused the delay with the words „An opera house is a very complex building. And for culture we should spend the necessary  money, no matter what.“  But not complexity caused the increase of cost and delay – it was more or less stupidity. In order to have a better accustic in the theater, it was decided to increase the volume of the auditorium. This idea made the whole building so heavy, that it would  disappear slowly in the sand of Berlin. Luckily somebody noticed it, before it was too late. The construction work had to be stopped, additional foundation was necessary, it costs a fortune and took four more years to finish.

Will the people in Berlin be able to see the famous  perfomances at the reopened State Opera House “ Unter den Linden“ right after the opening ceremony again? Of course not. Because it is not finished. October 3rd was the originally planned opening date, the memorial day of German Unification. The celebrities, who will join the opening, will not recognize, that the technical requirements for an opera performance will not be fullfilled completely at the time of the opening. The theater season may start in December 2017.

Another important building in Berlin fullfilles all three requirements: cost more than planned, is delayed and looks different.
